GOAT

This word GOAT has been tossed around a lot in pop culture recently. Its an acronym being used to describe the Greatest Of All Time, used mostly in reference for various sports and artisan crafts (like Michael Jordan or Michael Jackson...maybe my next child should be named Michael). The livestock goat, is an animal that is regarded as independent, stubborn and highly intelligent. I imagine that to be referred to as a GOAT you're going to overlap in a few characteristics of the mountain animal. Did you know that in the wild goats climb impossible mountains with a humble ease because they are wired to crave a salt that is found at the top? Why does the salt have to be at the TOP of the mountain? That's so far and arduous...many of us crave the low hanging fruit, what is easy and accessible at the moment. I imagine though that the GOATs have the best view and sense of achievement.

As I muse on the unintended similarities of the acronym I realize that there are not many young G.O.A.T.s. The Greatest Of All Time is just that, time tested. They are older, wiser and their achievements have withstood many who have come before and will come after them. They are revered and respected for the way they endured through. They are to be learned from, listened too because there is something special about the one who came before and paved the way for the present.

Seniors carry a unique humility of achievement. Its not necessarily because of all they have achieved in their life but because of all they have seen. As I listen to them talk it's their perspective of today in retrospect of yesterday that allows them to humbly pass on wisdom and light. We can all benefit from spending more time with the GOATs in our community.
